I am a Poet and a Psych Nurse. I feel the Creative Arts and Mental Health are very much connected on numerous levels. I am always interested in bringing Poetry to the Mental Health community and vice versa so if you are involved in any such projects, please feel free to contact me. I offer these skills: administrative/data entry, editorial/proof-reading, event planning, tutoring/workshops. Click here to see more of my qualifications.
I write in a variety of styles and am always exploring what Poetics can do and where it can take me.
My initial influences during undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University were the Beats and the New York School. In graduate school I became a bit more influenced by Surrealism and French Theory. My graduate work was directed by Chris Tysh at Wayne State University, during which time I founded, coordinated and hosted a literary reading called Collide with other students from WSU.
After graduate school, I moved to Denver and decided to get a Nursing degree. Since 2008 I have been making a living as a Psychiatric Nurse (click for the National Alliance On Mental Illness). Nursing has allowed me to travel the country and experience other writing communities such as New York City.
While living in the Bay I have read at a number venues, have had poems published, volunteered, became an Editor, started writing book reviews and started Buddy (a lit zine dedicated to mental health).
